I believe that perfection is boring and unhappy, and that is why the society in this movie is so devoid of happiness, vitality and fun. When everything is perfect there is no room for fun or games because you have to maintain the perfection and doing that takes work.
There is no pleasure, and no activities done for fun. In the film, this has led society to forget what happiness is. This film demonstrates the difference between perfection and happiness. Everyone strives to be perfect that they forget how to be happy.
Anton had more loyalty to his genetically engineered beings more than his brother Vincent. This is because he felt that he was better than the non genetically engineered people even if it meant that it was his own brother that he had to get.
There is a resistance to the new order imposed by the society because people are getting increasingly upset to have a future determined by their genes only, all the more so as they have realized the drawbacks and the failure of the system.
Anton, I never saved anything for the swim back. This is both a taunt and the truth. The taunt is confirming the implied willingness to drown them both that Anton voiced. The truth is Vincent eschews the fear of failure, and is willing to sacrifice everything to prove society wrong.
After placing second in a major swimming competition, he is involved in an accident that leaves him paralyzed from the waist down and in need of using a wheelchair. It is later revealed that Jerome’s accident was in fact a suicide attempt because of his failure to achieve perfection and being the best.
