Several types of cells are included in the lymphoid system—for example, reticular cells and white blood cells such as macrophages and lymphocytes. Reticular cells provide structural support, since they produce and maintain the thin networks of fibres that are a framework for most lymphoid organs.
It consists of connective tissue formed of reticular fibers, with various types of leukocytes (white blood cells), mostly lymphocytes enmeshed in it, through which the lymph passes. Regions of the lymphoid tissue that are densely packed with lymphocytes are known as lymphoid follicles.
The primary lymphoid organs are the red bone marrow, in which blood and immune cells are produced, and the thymus, where T-lymphocytes mature.
Lymphocytes develop in the thymus and bone marrow (yellow), which are therefore called central (or primary) lymphoid organs. The newly formed lymphocytes migrate from these primary organs to peripheral (or secondary) lymphoid organs (more…)
Lymphocytes are white blood cells that are also one of the body’s main types of immune cells. They are made in the bone marrow and found in the blood and lymph tissue. The immune system is a complex network of cells known as immune cells that include lymphocytes.
Lymphocytes are a type of white blood cell. They play an important role in your immune system, helping your body fight off infection. Many underlying medical conditions can cause lymphocytosis. High lymphocyte blood levels indicate your body is dealing with an infection or other inflammatory condition.
The normal range for lymphocytes is between 800 and 5000 (0.8-5.0) lymphocytes per mL of blood. A normal lymphocytes percentage is 18-45% of total white blood cells.
Here are steps you can take to help keep your immune system healthy.
