Tulane is one of the older medical schools in the United States with a rich history. The quality of education is high, Tulane is a selective university with plenty of academic qualities that might appeal to you, and the clinical and pre-clinical experiences are top notch.
One of the nation’s most recognized centers for medical education, Tulane University School of Medicine is a vibrant center for education, research and public service. Tulane University School of Medicine is the second-oldest medical school in the Deep South and the 15th oldest medical school in the United States.
Tulane admissions is extremely selective with an acceptance rate of 13%. Students that get into Tulane have an average SAT score between 1360-1520 or an average ACT score of 31-33. The regular admissions application deadline for Tulane is January 15.
In terms of academics, Tulane holds its students to standards equivalent to those in ivy league schools. The courses are rigorous, but not impossible to pass.
The most popular majors at Tulane University include: Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Social Sciences; Biological and Biomedical Sciences; Health Professions and Related Programs; and Psychology.
You can see that the majority of successful applicants had high school GPAs of 3.5 or higher, combined SAT scores of about 1300 or better, and ACT composite scores of 28 or higher. The higher those grades and test scores, the better your chances are of acceptance to Tulane.
Tulane’s campus in uptown New Orleans is within one of the safest areas of the city. The crime statistics on and around Tulane’s campus are comparable to – if not more favorable than – those at other urban universities.

Of course it’s safe to walk around New Orleans (and particularly the French Quarter) at night. Walking with a group is safer than walking alone, which I would never recommend. But even with a group of people, you’d be well served if you remained in the more populated, well-lit areas.
