On average it takes 9 years of disciplined training to become a professional dancer. This is based on a dancer becoming serious at age 9 and turning pro at 18. Becoming a professional can take less or more time, can occur earlier or later and even ‘professionals’ continually train to become more professional.
Is 19 too late to start? Of course!! Sure, there’s an advantage for people who start when they’re 5 or whatever, but there are amazing dancers who’ve started in their twenties or thirties and still make it just fine. If it’s your real passion, you’ll pick up plenty well, with dedication and hard work.
Age Is Just A Number To say it simply, there is no certain age to start dancing. There are some who start as young as toddlers and there are many people who’ve taken up dance as late as their 90s. Dance transcends age, gender, countries, cultures. The gist being you can learn to dance anytime, anywhere!!
Yes, it’s possible and it won’t be that hard or go very slowly if you’re fairly coordinated already. I’d say the most important thing to have is love of dance, and love of the dance you’re learning. Take lots of dance classes, from a place with a supportive atmosphere.
no age limit on professional or non pro dancer… start dancing at any age and it will lend you great benefits that are social, physical and mental.
It is absolutely possible to become good at it starting at 21. You won’t go pro, but that’s not your goal. I started dancing when I was about 17 but didn’t get mores serious about it until I started college. If there is a community college nearby they would most likely have a beginning ballet class offered.
